Autonomous Institutions of WAD

The autonomous institutions of the World Association for Development are specialized entities tasked with carrying out strategic mandates in priority areas of development. They enable WAD to strengthen its expertise, its capacity for action and its institutional presence with States, international organizations and technical and financial partners.

They differ from conventional projects and operational structures through their enduring purpose, their framed functional autonomy and their specialized role. They operate at the interface between WAD’s strategic vision, the Global Programs, the Observatories and the cross-cutting support mechanisms.

This general framework gives the autonomous institutions a shared foundation of governance, accountability, coordination and monitoring and evaluation. It strengthens the coherence of the WAD architecture and positions these institutions as essential levers of credibility, specialization and impact in the service of sustainable human development.
