Global Program for Local Authorities Development Support

The Global Program for Local Authorities Development Support is the programmatic framework through which the World Association for Development (WAD) structures its action in favour of territorial governance, decentralisation, and sustainable local development. It aims to support territorial authorities in the strengthening of their institutional, administrative, and financial capacities in order to durably improve territorial management and the quality of local public services.

This Program intervenes notably in the areas of local governance, territorial planning, land-use management, local economic development, local finance, citizen participation, and territorial resilience. Its approach promotes integrated interventions designed to strengthen the capacities of local authorities, improve territorial coordination, and support more inclusive and sustainable development dynamics.

Aligned with the principal international frameworks relating to sustainable territorial development, notably Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities and SDG 16 on effective and inclusive institutions, the Global Program for Local Authorities Development Support constitutes a strategic framework designed to promote territories that are more resilient, better governed, and capable of effectively responding to the needs of populations.
