When voluntary blood donation becomes a collective response to transfusion emergencies that threaten children’s lives.

Every year, many children face life-threatening situations because the blood products they need are not available when required. In response to this reality, the World Association for Development (AMD) implements the “Solidarity for Survival” project, a community mobilization initiative designed to support paediatric emergency services through the organization of voluntary blood donation drives.

The project aims to increase the availability of blood products for hospitals specializing in maternal and child healthcare. It therefore contributes to improving the response to critical medical situations in which a timely transfusion can determine the outcome of care.

To achieve this objective, AMD brings together women’s organizations, community structures, volunteers and citizens around a cause directly linked to child protection. Information campaigns, communication activities and blood donation days are organized to encourage regular donation and promote a lasting culture of civic engagement.

The project also promotes closer cooperation between communities and healthcare facilities. Collected blood products are directed to the appropriate institutions, particularly hospitals specializing in maternal and paediatric care, in order to strengthen available supplies and support the management of transfusion emergencies.

The actions undertaken have increased public awareness of the blood needs of paediatric services and strengthened understanding of the concrete impact of voluntary blood donation. They have also encouraged more structured participation by associations and community networks, laying the foundations for better-coordinated mobilization around emergencies affecting children.

Through this initiative, AMD emphasizes that child protection does not depend solely on education or nutrition. It also requires health services to have rapid access to essential resources when a child’s life is at risk. In this context, every donation can make a decisive contribution to ensuring safe and timely medical care.

The World Association for Development intends to strengthen this momentum by expanding the mobilization of donors, health partners and community organizations. This approach aims to sustainably increase the availability of blood products needed for paediatric emergencies and make civic solidarity a concrete contribution to protecting children’s health.
