Awareness-raising and support initiatives to promote women's access to social protection mechanisms and prevent vulnerability in old age.

Because women's empowerment does not end with working life, the World Association for Development (AMD) pays particular attention to the social protection of older women. Convinced that ageing should not be synonymous with hardship, it develops awareness-raising and knowledge-building initiatives to promote better retirement planning and greater access to social security mechanisms, particularly for women engaged in self-employment in rural areas.

In many communities, women devote their entire lives to agricultural, artisanal or commercial activities, often within producer groups or local organizations. Despite their essential contribution to the economy and collective well-being, many remain outside social protection schemes and reach old age without a pension, regular income or sufficient financial security.

In response to this reality, AMD conducts information and awareness campaigns on the importance of affiliation and voluntary contributions to social security schemes. These interventions help women better understand the benefits of social protection, anticipate the risks associated with loss of income and prepare for their future in more dignified and secure conditions.

To strengthen this momentum, the Association mobilizes institutional partners, social security organizations, social welfare institutions and women's organizations to bring existing mechanisms closer to the populations concerned. Information sessions, community-based exchanges and tailored training help women understand their rights, contribution procedures and the mechanisms to which they may have access.

The actions undertaken contribute to improving knowledge of social rights and the solutions available for preparing for old age. They also promote earlier awareness of the importance of social protection, strengthen participants' ability to make informed choices and encourage dialogue between communities, women's organizations and the relevant institutions.

By facilitating access for self-employed women to appropriate social protection coverage, AMD contributes to preventing poverty among older women, strengthening household resilience and building more inclusive communities. Protecting women after a lifetime of work means recognizing their contribution to society and preserving their dignity at every stage of their lives.

The World Association for Development intends to continue this work by expanding its partnerships, intensifying awareness-raising initiatives and supporting social protection mechanisms that are more accessible to the most vulnerable women. This approach makes social security a sustainable lever for combating poverty, reducing inequalities and improving living conditions.
