Actions that matter

Strengthening workplace well-being through listening and support offices.

Creating confidential spaces for listening and guidance to prevent psychosocial risks and improve quality of working life.

The World Association for Development (AMD) supports public administrations, businesses and professional organizations in establishing listening and support offices. These mechanisms aim to provide staff with an accessible framework in which they can express difficulties that may affect their well-being, motivation and participation in professional life.

This initiative responds to the recognition that personal, family, professional or psychosocial situations can have repercussions on health, workplace relationships and organizational functioning. When they remain unaddressed or do not receive appropriate guidance, they can worsen, weaken the people concerned and progressively deteriorate the internal working climate.

Listening and support offices provide an initial confidential, impartial and appropriate listening service. They allow beneficiaries to share their concerns, receive useful information and be directed to services corresponding to the nature of their situation. AMD supports institutions in designing these mechanisms, defining procedures, organizing the system and training personnel responsible for reception and guidance.

The operation of these offices is based on clear guarantees of confidentiality, neutrality, respect for individuals and protection of the information collected. Access to data must be strictly limited, its retention properly regulated and any disclosure subject to the consent of the person concerned, except where a serious situation requires the application of a protection protocol provided for by applicable rules. Supervision mechanisms and conflict-of-interest prevention measures also help preserve trust in the system.

The listening office provides an initial reception and guidance function. It does not replace specialized professionals or medical, psychological, social or legal services. When the situation requires it, the person is referred to an appropriate service through a clear procedure that ensures continuity and relevance of support.

The establishment of these mechanisms has facilitated earlier expression of certain difficulties and improved the referral of individuals to appropriate contacts. It has also helped institutions become more attentive to factors affecting staff well-being, strengthened confidence in internal support channels and helped prevent the deterioration of situations that could have a lasting impact on professional life.

Through this initiative, the World Association for Development reaffirms its commitment to people-centered governance. By helping organizations establish reliable, ethical and accessible mechanisms, AMD contributes to promoting more peaceful, responsible and better-prepared professional environments for preventing psychosocial risks.
