Comprehensive support to help young mothers resume their educational journey, acquire qualifications and gain greater autonomy.

Because no interruption in a young woman’s educational journey should permanently compromise her future, the World Association for Development (AMD) implements the “Second Chance” programme, an initiative designed to support young girls who have interrupted their schooling following an early pregnancy or other situations of significant vulnerability.

The programme is based on an essential conviction: every young girl should have a new opportunity to build her future. A pregnancy occurring during schooling can lead to dropping out, social isolation, economic insecurity and a loss of confidence. These difficulties may be compounded by prejudice, limited resources, early parental responsibilities or a lack of family support, which can have a lasting impact on prospects for social and professional integration.

In response to this reality, AMD provides comprehensive support based on listening, guidance, psychosocial assistance and the development of a project tailored to each beneficiary’s situation. This approach helps participants regain confidence in their abilities, identify their priorities and prepare an educational or professional pathway that is compatible with their aspirations and responsibilities.

Depending on their needs, the programme supports either a return to formal education or access to qualifying vocational training. It also facilitates access to training scholarships and referrals to relevant institutions. When necessary, psychosocial support helps young girls better overcome discrimination, difficult experiences and the emotional challenges associated with their circumstances.

For beneficiaries, “Second Chance” creates concrete opportunities: returning to a learning pathway, acquiring professional skills, clarifying a future plan and gradually preparing for economic independence. The programme therefore helps reduce the risk of exclusion, strengthen self-confidence and create more favourable conditions for their participation in family, social and community life.
